| Am I allowed to do abdominal exercises during pregnancy? | ||
Yes! You can exercise your abdominals during pregnancy. And, by having a connection with your abdominal muscles you will be able to shorten the pushing phase during labor! But, doing abdominals correctly is critical. You should not be on your back after the first trimester. The ABC'S of Prenatal Fitness recommends that you engage in abdominals in the seated position. It is just as effective as on your back. You can practice these in the car, on the train, and at your desk. In the seated position, make sure you make a "hissing" sound as you draw your navel back toward your spine. With each hiss, imagine giving the baby a hug. Even if you don't feel the muscles engage, by making the sound, the key muscles (transverse abdominal muscles) automatically draw inward. Close Window |
