| I don't want to gain too much weight during my pregnancy. I'm so afraid of getting fat! What can I do? | ||
Gaining weight during pregnancy is NOT about getting fat. It's about adding the weight of the baby, placenta, increased breast tissue, blood volume, and uterus. The average weight gain is 25-35 pounds. That doesn't mean you won't gain more or less than this amount. Your goal should be to stay healthy for both you and your baby. A proper diet and exercise program will accomplish that goal. Discuss a healthy diet with your medical practitioner, remembering the importance of increased calories and protein intake, especially the first two trimesters. Also, the body needs more water than when you weren't pregnant so make sure to always carry a water bottle with you throughout the day. The focus on exercise is to help you feel better during your pregnancy, prepare you for the birth of your baby and, to have a quicker postpartum recovery. Statistically, women who exercise during pregnancy have less pounds of fat to lose postpartum! Close Window |
